This tech editing sample is a Product Shelf-Life Real-Time Aging Test Report that I edited for a client. I provide three pages for this sample; Page 1 - this is the initial document prior to editing. Page 2 displays the edited redlines with comments for the SME and team members to address. Page 3 presents the final draft with accepted redlined edits, while retaining my comments.
Deep Dive – As noted in Step 1, simple edits for clarification and syntax were made. According to Comment IE1, there is confusion in the glass-transition information provided by the SME (originator), where he indicated a rise (or greater) “>” in temperature, but according to the released Validation Protocol VP-38820, the temperature should be “<” lower than 37°C. Verification is requested. Step 2 describes using the Psychrometric charts to measure relative humidity, but SME does not explain where the charts are located and how he performed the measurement. Comment IE2 requests "charts" location and how they were used to extract the information. Step 3 provides the oven timeline using an Arrhenius equation as indicated. However, according to ISO 11607-1 standard as noted in Comment IE3, this equation does not follow the accelerated aging study or real-time aging equation concepts stated in VP-38820, therefore, this equation is incorrect and must be performed again for verification. There are other redlines within this sample that are self-explanatory, but will show how editing will streamline content.
The tech writing sample was created for an investment company. The initial document was a proposal, but technical content was critical in providing details for evaluating issues and potential recommendations to correct audit findings in order for investors to consider business opportunities.
Deep Dive – During an external audit, there were many problems identified showing major noncompliance for this manufacturing company. Majority of the research was performed on released manufacturing, quality control, and engineering documents, to help understand the issues identified by the auditors, and steps on rectifying these problems. In collaboration with core team members, I drafted this report/proposal to not only identify key issues but provided released/signed documents that shows proper steps were followed on some process, but not on others. Without getting into too much detail, the team had to come up with a proposed plan and timeline in order to correct the items identified as nonconforming, and improve processes.
The tech writing flowchart form sample was created for a manufacturing company to provide a “Reportability” map process flowchart for regulatory filings to correct complaints of noncompliance.
Deep Dive – This form is designed to guide the Regulatory Affairs (RA) Department through the regulatory submission process. This form derived from an established work instruction, WI-00253, and maps the steps to take when a complaint is received by a regulatory body. I created this flowchart in collaboration with RA and QA to ensure proper filing requirements were met. The process is easy to follow and is accurate according to established guidelines.
The Supplier Quality Management SOP sample was written by me in collaboration with QA SMEs to ensure potential vendor and suppliers meet the company's quality requirements.
Deep Dive – This SQM SOP was created and released in the quality management system, to establish supplier and vendor relationships according to the company’s established quality requirements. Associated assessments, checklists, and questionnaires were not part of my scope of responsibility when writing this procedure, however, I did perform the review and editing of most of the referenced documents associated to this SOP.
The Fiction Copy Editing sample was a short story by a new author aiming to submit it to a publisher. However, her pitch was not accepted because she had submitted several other short stories that were pending evaluation. She is currently awaiting feedback.
The Non-Fiction sample comes from a university student who will be submitting her story for grading. The sample provided is only two paragraphs long, as it was not in a completed state at the time of editing.
The Digital Editing sample was from a new sports writer attempting to “break into” the sports writing field. She has submitted this article but is still waiting to hear back from the magazine’s editing team.
